There isn't a person, business or entity that has not been affected in some way by the downturn in the economy. During difficult times, some may forgo insurance protection to trim their budgets, however, the Florida Association of Insurance Agents emphasizes that during these tough times it is essential to make sure those protections are in place giving you and your family peace of mind.
According to a recent Mason Dixon poll, 31 percent of Floridians do not conduct annual reviews of their insurance policies to ensure their homes and personal possessions are adequately covered in the event of a loss. Additionally, 38 percent of Floridians don't know if their personal possessions, such as jewelry and antiques, are fully covered by their insurance policies. Other findings include:
62 percent do not have a personal umbrella policy to insure them for high-end lawsuits that may exceed the limits of their homeowner and/or auto policies.
57 percent do not have insurance that will pay off their home mortgage in the event of an untimely death.
These results are telling and demonstrate the public's lack of confidence in the well-being of the economy. Too often people avoid addressing financial issues because they see them as intimidating, confusing, and overwhelming. As a result of this they are procrastinating and avoiding the issue until it is almost too costly for them to get this protection.
While purchasing insurance may seem like a daunting task, it isn't difficult. With the right insurance agent the process is smooth and painless and will ensure your property and family is protected.
FAIA is committed to helping Florida families take the necessary steps to cover their interests. The association represents more than 1,800 independent property and casualty agent businesses employing more than 10,000 licensed producers.
